This was a large landscaping project front and back. The house was newly refurbished with contemporary extension and separate Art studio. The front was level tarmac surrounded by mature shrubs/trees. The back was sloping down to newly built Art studio.
The client required:
- Removal of unwanted trees and shrubs
- Crown lifting of existing trees
- Repair and tidy Grisellinia hedge either side of entrance
- Installation of concrete post and panel fencing
- Installation of fencing and gates dividing front from back
- Installation of services for proposed electric gate
- New driveway using pea gravel
- Silver granite path and cobbles for apron and surrounding beds
- Utility area for clothes line and wheelie bins etc.
- Large upper and lower entertainment area surrounding contemporary extension
- Raised beds and wide steps
- Facing and capping of steps leading down to art studio
- Pea gravel area around art studio
- New instant roll out lawn
- Planting and filling gaps with evergreen specimens around driveway, planting of beds around entertainment area
- Installation of low voltage garden lighting system
- Due to size of the property, low maintenance where possible
The design I created included all of the above. Construction of this garden took longer than expected. For the driveway low raised beds were created using 200x100x100mm tumbled silver granite cobble, the apron was created using 200x100x50mm tumbled cobble, the granite path was created using 600x600mm granite slabs which lead from the apron around to the left side gate.
The paving within the back area was completed using 600x600mm granite slabs laid square on square. Beds surrounding the paving were finished using granite slips on the edge creating definition. A raised bed/seat was installed to soften neighbouring gable using rendered 4” solids capped with 600x300mm to double as seating. Raised beds were also installed either side of the steps leading down to the new lawn. The steps were 8m wide and looked really impressive. The steps leading down to the studio were clad in granite. The planting was mostly black stemmed bamboo in keeping with the contemporary style with perennial beds either side. The clients were very happy with the results and posted the following five star review:
“Kevin came to look at our space and had a vision for what could be created that we could never have imagined. He genuinely lives out his statement that the work is a partnership and he has created a haven of tranquility that we will enjoy for years to come. His attention to detail and the pride he takes in the outcome are impressive and rare”.
