This garden was quite rundown. It was a flat site with good access. The surrounds comprised of old rotten timber fences left and right with angular concrete wall along back boundary. There was an uneven over grown lawn with a few unkempt plants surrounding.
The clients required a complete overhaul, which included:
- New surrounds and side gate
- Gardenroom with separate area for fridge and storage area
- Infrared heaters within Gardenroom
- Low maintenance
- Synthetic grass lawn
- Silver granite patio
- Garden lighting
- Raised beds
- Contemporary style
- Flowering perennial planting
- Colour contrasts with painting
- Privacy
- Deadline for Marriage Day
The design I created followed the stepping rectangular nature of the house. This was mirrored within the synthetic grass lawn. The floor of the garden room was also granite. Granite stepping stones connected the two areas which traversed the synthetic grass lawn. A separate room was included within the Gardenroom to house a fridge, workbench and storage. Infra red heaters were connected to the roof for heating within.
The surrounds of the garden were re-done using Planed pressure treated Scandinavian Spruce to a height of 2m, creating instant privacy. 2 raised beds followed the line of the fencing either side. These were plastered top and sides in keeping with the contemporary theme/brief. Horizontal latt sections were connected to the fencing to soften and act as a foil for garden lighting. The painting created interest by contrasting two colours. We contrasted Ronseal ‘Slate’ with Sadolins ‘Antracite Grey’, which looked fantastic.
A feature bed was created in front of the large window. Planting comprised of Bay Laurel Lollipops and Buxus hedging. The lollipops really framed the garden from within. The rest of the planting was completed using flowering perennials. I just about made the important marriage day deadline. The clients were delighted with their new garden and kindly posted the following five star review:
