A pergola or arbour can be described as a garden feature forming a shaded walkway, passageway, or seating area of vertical posts or pillars that usually support cross-beams and a sturdy open lattice, often upon which woody vines are trained. We design and install pergolas as part of our landscaping services. We install these beautiful yet fully functional pergolas for customers across Dublin and Wicklow. We also create the increasingly popular Gardenroom, and have recently started installing Barbecue shelters. Please enjoy the pictures below:

Pergola/Shelter, Churchtown, Co Dublin
Pergolas are a lovely addition to any garden, adding, height, shelter, interest and room effect within the space. They are great for framing footpaths and look fantastic with creative lighting.
This pergola was built using planed pressure treated Scandinavian Spruce. 4×3”s were used for posts, 4×2”s for joists and 2×2”s to create the square design surround. The differing sizes of timber are a must for Pergolas to look correct.
The square design of this pergola is loosely based on Japanese principles and picked up the square stepping stones within the lawn. The timber was painted with 2 coats of Ronseal ‘Slate’. The roof was topped with 1800x1200x25mm Perspex sheeting, giving shelter during rainy days. The planting consisted simply of Clematis ‘Armandii’ and edible Nasturtiums.

Barbecue Shelter and Gardenroom, Glencree, Co Wicklow
A barbecue shelter/gardenroom is another great idea for any garden, creating a feature within the garden. In the case of a gas barbecue, it negates the use of unsightly waterproof covers which generally blow off after a windy day. It also means there is no preparation or setting up required, the barbecue is on standby for instant use.
The first barbecue shelter is located just outside the kitchen of my house getting weekly use year round. The shelter also extends the life and condition of the gas barbecue. You can be creative within the shelter, installing strip lighting, stone or timber table tops and shelving etc.

The second is a charcoal barbecue located in an area above the house. There is obviously some setting up required here, but the barbecue is out of the element’s, meaning cleaning is not a big deal, and can be completed before the next feast. It’s not the case with an unsheltered charcoal barbecue, with ash getting soggy or blowing all over the place. In my opinion the charcoal barbecue gives superior taste to that lovely rib-eye, burger, chicken etc.

Gardenroom, The Gallops, Leopardstown, Co Dublin
A Garden Room, a fantastic idea for any garden. This room was created using planed pressure treated Scandinavian spruce of varying dimensions. A shed took up 1/3rd of the area for fridge and washing machine. The roof was completed using ¾” ply finished with polyester unrippable felt. All beams were painted in Sadolins ‘antracite’ which contrasted nicely with the Ronseal ‘slate’. Two Infrared heaters were installed on the roof within. Wall lights glazed the back wall both up and down. The base of the room was finished with a Portugeuse flamed silver granite. The clients are delighted with this space saying ‘It’s like an extra room to the house’.

The Pergola, Barbecue shelter, Gardenroom are great structures to include in your garden. They add height, shelter and the all important room effect. They lead you into the garden inviting you to explore or simply sit down and enjoy a book. For larger structures Perspex sheeting can be used to provide protection from the rain. Pergolas framing a path can become a clothes line, running re-tractable clothes line between first and last post
At landscaping.ie we design and custom build Pergolas, Barbecue shelters and Gardenrooms to suit your garden. All the timber we use is planed and pressure-treated before installation.
